While general help on MediaWiki formatting can be found here, below are a few conventions that are specific to the wiki for Midkemia Online, plus a few tips!

DO

  • Use the name of the page in bold text near the beginning of the article.
  • Insert a wiki link the first time a term appears in an article, but not after that.
  • Use spaces in a namespace if there are multiple words. [[Bitter Sea]], not [[BitterSea]].
  • Use a full name if applicable when creating a namespace (page title): [[Arutha conDoin]], not [[Arutha]].

DON'T

  • Create namespaces starting with the. [[Kingdom of the Isles]] is correct, [[the Kingdom of the Isles]] is not.
  • Create wiki pages for individual players of Midkemia Online.
  • Publish quest solutions or material that is normally hidden in-game.

Ready to contribute but not sure where to start?

  • Short Pages - the shortest pages need more content in order to be informative! Please do not copy material from in-game help files.
  • Wanted Pages - pages that are linked from current pages but have not been created. Click on the red text to start a new page!
  • Dead End Pages - these do not have any links to other pages. Look for words to turn into links, or content to add.
  • Lonely Pages - these are not linked to by any other pages. Look for pages where you may be able to insert a link to these pages.

Do I create a page or category?

In most cases you should create a page - but sometimes you may need both. For example, there is both a Free Cities category and a Free Cities page.

A category should have minimal information, as it is primarily an organizational page that lists other pages. History of the Free Cities' previous affiliation with Kesh as the province of Bosania, or discussion of the tensions between the Free Cities and the Kingdom, would all be appropriate for the Free Cities page, not the category.

For an example of how this is done elsewhere, see Wikipedia's California category vs. the page about California. Note that the page on California is also in the California category - just like the Free Cities page is also in the Free Cities category.
